The Hungarian government declared the state in danger because of the coronavirus pandemic on the 4th of November in 2020. Due to the new regulations the residence permits validation have been extended. Residence permits will be valid for another 30 days after the end of the state of the danger. In this regard they will be automatically extended if the period of their validity expires between the 4th of November in 2020 and the 7 th of February in 2021. The maximum date of validation will be the 9th of March 2021.

What kind of permits will be extended in this regard?

  • Permanent Residence Card
  • EU Blue card
  • Residence Permit
  • Permanent Residence Permit

Exceptions to the above mentioned:

  • Visas (for short stay e.g.: type C and D)
  • documents entitling the holder to obtain a residence permit

REMINDER:

Please be aware that residence permits expired before the 4th of November will not be extended, nor if there is a change in the purpose or in the circumstances of your permit (e.g. you were a student before, but now you would enter to employment). Don’t forget that renewal applications of residence permits must be submitted 30 days before your current permit expires. This means that if your residence permit is automatically renewed due to the state of danger, you will still need to apply for an extension by the 7th of February in 2021 at the latest. The Immigration Office is still open during the danger, but you must book an appointment in advance. If you need any help with the extension procedure, please do not hesitate to contact us.
